I wrote a letter to Archbishop Rowan on the 7th December, and after five weeks I thought that perhaps I would never get a reply, so I posted it on the Blog. However, yesterday I did receive a reply from Joanna Udal (pictured above) and I've scanned it in and pasted it below. Whilst I am delighted to receive a reply, and the apology for the three month delay, I am disappointed at the content. My letter was about some genuine concerns that I wanted to discuss. The reply doesn't seem to address the concerns, and restates the position, citing documents that I have read before. Anyway - as I posted the original letter, I feel it is appropriate to post the reply:

It sounds as devoid of meaning as the stuff we get from the Methodist hierarchy.
Good Heavens. Is it implied here that we aren't behaving as adults? Then what assumptions are being made about adult behavior?
It sounds to me then like we all are on pretty shaky ground in terms of making adult decisions about the Covenant, since we are not yet working under its maturing auspices.

Are you supposed to be pleased that the salutation of the letter is hand-written? It would seem that this is just further proof that they have a stockpile of pre-approved, pre-planned responses to simply repeat their position as if it is the only position worth stating in the first place!
What is the point of repeating the existing position, without addressing the questions being asked.
Perhaps it was answered by a Robot, who just got someone to sign it!
Would they not have replied if you hadn't posted it on your blog? A well-read blog really is powerful. Good luck with the next salvos.

As for the content - seems like civil servant boilerplate. I trust you'll reply pointing this out...
It sounds to me like the same old... same old. It also makes me wonder what the back room bargain was for +Rowan to become ABC in the first place?
Hi Sam, I didn't think the photo was that bad - obviously too used to the Pluralist depicting me! I've changed it, hope that is better. I am sure she's lovely, as are most of the people I meet in the CofE.
