Oh Dear. Rowan Williams refused to answer when asked whether he hopes that one day gay Bishops will be able to have partners. See part of the interview here. Oh, Archbishop, why not simply tell the truth?
This is a serious question, we all know that Rowan Williams is pro-gay really, that his ideal church would have equality. What happened to love driving out fear? What happened to Perfect Freedom? What happened to life in all its fullness?
I see a man who is afraid, a man too scared to say what he believes. Do all Bishops have to deny their visionary ideals, or is it just the Archbishop of Canterbury? Am I meant to tow some wishy washy party line too? It isn't as if Rowan has real power anyway. Things have to go through synods, and so doesn't that free him up to respectfully disagree with out Nigerian Bishops?
These are genuine questions. I would love to try to understand. I do like Rowan Williams, I just can't understand him as a leader.
